   What lock to choose?

False grooves

Opening a lock with a picklock is considered one of the most intellectual and laborious methods of breaking, only professionals can do it. The main minus of this method is absence of breaking marks. The lock is not damaged and continues to work properly. Furthermore, after successful "hunting" some cynical burglars close the door by the same means it was opened, with a picklock. And a thieved owner just is puzzled when sees "bare walls" and an undamaged door.
For successful protection against picklocks all BORDER locks have false grooves on levers and Ï-shaped stands on the bar.
When working with a picklock a malefactor must find for each lever plate the same position which it has during the opening with a correct key. It means that each lever has a small gap across. For the thief it means that he has found a position for this very plate when nothing prevents the movement of the stand of the bar. And finally, after doing the same for all the levers he will successfully open the door. For a good lock it means that the false groove on the levers gets into the groove of the Ï-shaped stand of the bar. And it is not related to the opening of the lock. Of course, there are virtuosos who can open any lock with a picklock, but there are very few of such specialists, and they agree to take part in crimes in exceptional cases.
The possibility of opening a lock with a picklock is also influenced with number of levers (the more levers are in a lock, the longer a thief will act), secrecy (i.e. number of unrepeated variants of keys for locks of this series), type of springs. Protective qualities of a lock are improved as with weekened so as with hardened springs. When spring resistance is week, it is more difficult for a thief to define if he has found a correct position for a lever plate. When spring resistance is strong, more force is needed to work with a picklock. And when there is no pressure on levers they return to their previous position immediately.
False grooves and weakened springs of levers protect from being opened by a picklock.
